New Trends in Women's Swim Shorts

For the summer season of 2010, the new trend for women's swimwear is the addition of swim shorts. Perhaps women grew tired of only men having the choice to be more modest with their swimsuits, or perhaps it was simply the fashion designers' way of coming up with something new. Whatever the reason, the idea came along, and with it, quite a variety of products out there to browse through and purchase. 

The shorts tend to be sold separately and therefore can be worn as part of a swimming set or on top of one. The materials used to make the swim shorts is generally a nylon and spandex combination, with some makers having their own unique blend. Most are lined for modesty and waterproofing purposes. Some have tummy control and are marketed to be slimming. You can also find stylish ones with drawstrings and ones with pockets.

As far as the fashion side of the swim short design for women, there are many styles to choose from. The majority come in solid colors to make the matching process easier, but you can find prints as well. The tankini style that has been around for a while is still available. For the younger crew, the short and tight boyshort cut is in ample supply; for the older (or simply more modest) shoppers, longer and baggier swim shorts that look more like men's trunks are also available. Like most women's apparel, you are bound to find a style, design, and color you love.

Swimwear companies like Roxy, Hurley, and Speedo have their line of women's swim shorts. Outdoor and sports clothing specialists Nike, Land's End, and Eddie Bauer have contributed to the market as well. Body Glove is a newer company that has many styles available and is geared toward younger consumers. Of course you can also find lesser known name brands at mall and chain department stores. 

As you might suspect, the prices can range from under $10 to over $100. If you like to stay trendy or simply have been dying to wear more of a swim trunk and tank top look when enjoying the summer waters, women's swim shorts are a great idea and can be easily found by any shopper.
